Quality equipment that gives me any satisfaction, and all for a very reasonable price. Kudos to Netgear which stands out from its competitors in the same price. The mark (a lot) more expensive, it only has to hold up. Solid chassis with excellent build quality. I have added two HD 4TB WD RED. The installation is simple, It lasted for 10 minutes. I started with a NAS... and there, it really is that easy! It is very well guided! Choose without apprehension. Very good server, DSM5 is running fine with 3 X 4tb in SHR. Good computing power. On a network 1Gbit => transfer speed of a large file (6gb) it is 55Mo/s = X8 = 440Mb/S. 20s/1gb of data. I just added this DS215j in addition to my DS210j because I lacked storage space. I included 2 disks Seagate NAS HDD of 4tb which is proving to be perfectly compatible. Never had any trouble with the DS210j since 2010, I continue to trust Synology. Product neat, discreet, efficient, easy to set up and use. The OS DSM 5. 2 is very ergonomic. The top of the home server. I install is I used it as a server and I am very happy... turns écomode as soon as it is not used, I am delighted.... I fitted mine to 8gb of DDR3 1333 non-ECC for about 45€ at the time, which allows me to comfortably use 4 hard drives of 2tb each, in a volume ZFS with compression LZ4 enabled. By contrast, the configurtaion VPN is complicated.. Amazon delivered it before a week. The device is functional, not easy to configure (to start, plug it in now RESET with a paper clip, it takes 2 hands 1/2...), but is really doing its job without batting an eyelid. File sharing has home, TimeMachine backup (MacOSX-friendly), accessibility to remote SMB and via a browser (recovery, download etc...) There is a lack of features (sreveur mail) and the interface is not very simple (user accounts & groups) but the quality/price ratio remains excellent for home use as I intended. The biggest flaw statement for the time being, is at the level of the server, DNLA, which switches the CPU of the device to 80% during the broadcast of a film in SD, and goes to 100% for a film in 1080p, with some cuts from time to time. Has several, or if the device did something else at the same time, the problem increases. On some drives (TV or readers on a tablet), the playback of a HD movie in DNLA does not pass any more. The film systematically break at the end of a few seconds, waiting for data, and then restarts and crashes again... They lack clearly customization options (Cloud management as a tool of synchronization between the PC and the Synology for example). For my part I have replaced advantageously the synchronization tool Synology is very restricted by SyncBackFree much more rich! This is a very good NAS performance and well finished. If you are used to the QNAP, and Synology, you will be disappointed by the interface of management : yet the most common functions are there. The file system brtfs offers a snapshot system that allows you to recover deleted files or revert to a previous version. For the followers of Linux it is a standard Debian with a few additions specific NetgearLe only flaw is the documentation, which is why I removed a star.
